Dear Residents,

As many people are aware City Power is currently busy auditing prepaid meters across Region C. Many areas have been affected including large parts of Ward 70.

Following discussions with management at City Power yesterday they have reaffirmed that they will be dealing with these issues on a case by case basis. They have indicated that these issues will be dealt with in three categories:

  • Those who never received prepaid meters or whose meters were never registered will be reconnected with a prepaid meter and the fine will be cancelled;
  • Those whose meters went faulty and were bridged will be considered for reconnection assuming that they have logged a call at some point and received a reference number, in other words those that can prove that they tried to have their meters repaired / replaced. The fine will also be cancelled in such a case;
  • Those whose meters are bridged and who can’t provide proof that they tried to have it repaired / replaced will need to pay the fine before they will be reconnected.

Unfortunately this process can only be done at City Power’s offices in Booysens, the address is 40 Heronmere Road, Reuven.

Should you have further queries please contact Metering on 011-490-7484

Kind Regards,

Cllr Caleb Finn

FLORIDA TRAIN STATION CLEAN UP

The residents of Florida and surrounding areas came together on Saturday, 23 March 2019 and conducted a clean up campaign of the area surrounding the Florida Train Station.

In the week preceding this event City Parks came and cut the grass at the open space on the corner of Dan Street and Sixth Avenue, Florida. Pikitup also cleared illegal dumping on the open area on the corner of Hull Street and Fifth Avenue, Florida.

Community members came in their multitudes to help clear more of the vegetation along both sides of the railway line, as well as doing skoffeling in Hull Street outside Killarney Hotel, this was also accompanied by lots of litter picking.

A huge word of thanks to the organiser, Rodney Churchyard as well as the greater Florida Community, sponsors included Jade Waste, Hire All, Nu-Prime Clinic, Vumatel, Fidelity ADT, Florida Muslim Meats, Bulk Pack Butcher, Pam Golding Real Estate and Pikitup.

It is truly inspiring to see the community coming together to tackle issues of concern.

Florida Lake Swimming Pool http://ward70.org.za/blog/florida-lake-swimming-pool.html http://ward70.org.za/blog/florida-lake-swimming-pool/#respond Mon, 11 Mar 2019 17:37:41 +0000 http://ward70.org.za/blog/florida-lake-swimming-pool.html

Dear Residents

Kindly note that the Florida Lake Swimming Pool had to be closed due to a leak which has developed inside the swimming pool, the pool is losing too much water and officials had to close it until such time that the leak is located and repaired.

Florida North Swimming Pool is open seven days a week and residents are advised to make use of this swimming pool in the interim.

I have to take this opportunity to commend the Sports & Recreation Department on keeping the Florida Lake swimming pool open for the vast majority of this season, in previous years we have really battled due to maintenance issues, this was the first season in many years where the pool never closed due to technical issues.

The only challenge which was still experienced was a shortage of lifeguards which lead to the pool being closed on alternate weekends. We trusting that in the coming season this problem will also be resolved.

Kind Regards

Cllr Caleb Finn
